Organic Certification

What is organic certification?

The NOP organic standard was established via federal regulations, to satisfy consumer demand for organic products. In 2002, the NOP implemented the organic standard for all organic producers to follow who wished to sell, market, or label their products as organic. The NOP defined organic agriculture as:

“Organic production [is] a production system that…respond[s] to site-specific conditions by integrating cultural, biological, and mechanical practices that foster cycling of resources, promote ecological balance, and conserve biological diversity”

The organic standard is carried out through third-party certification agencies who verify that clients are complying with the organic regulations.
